Update

it’s been a while since I did an overal update on my fitness tracking as well a general update of what’s happening with me.  So here it is.  I had surgery to fix a herniated navel.  This Friday will be three weeks and I can start riding again.  I am looking forward to riding and getting back into the gym.  I picked up a book on cycling anatomy that is full of exercises that relate directly to helping out on the bike.  I want to make some workout cards from the book to take to the gym, so I might be scanning some of the graphics to make a flip deck.  I assume that’s considered fair use under the copyright laws.  Since I know I lost some fitness over the last few weeks, I am also considering trying the Chris Carmichael training program outlined in "5 Essentials for Winning at Life".  Hopefully between the two books I will have some decent guidance considering I have not done any personal training since March.

On the work front not much has changed.  Debby and I took a short vacation to the coast for my birthday and our anniversary.  It was fun, but I think we may choose another hotel next time (see previous blog post).  I have enrolled in a graduate certificate program at the UNC School of Public Health.  The program is Community Preparedness and Disaster Management.  While not directly related to my cyber incident response duties at work, it will allow me to understand the processes and principles of incident management at the local, state and federal levels to both man made and natural disasters.  This should benefit me in my role as a subject matter expert on cyber when called upon by our NC homeland security branch.

I will be back at Jellybeans Super Skate Center in Cary this Wednesday to DJ for the 80’s night crowd.  A couple weeks off was a good break.  I think it’s been over three years that I have been doing this gig and some burnout was definately taking it’s toll. Hopefully some of the Sexy Saddle Sirens will make it out one of these Wednesday’s when their normal Wednesday night ride is rained out.  Don’t worry, my wife is one of the SSS group.

Jellybeans Playlists for April 1 & 7

Okay, so I went in last night to DJ and someone had complained that the Wednesday night music is the same music all of the time.   I think, hmm, I wasn’t here last week; the week before I played like a full rock pop set for the first hour and the regulars have their favorites that they want (sometimes demand) to hear and I am not sure if they were talking about last week or all Wednesdays as a whole.  What to do?  Make it through the night and start using my Wednesday nights for better things in the future or try to work on coming up with sets that will keep the regulars happy, entice new people to keep coming back and make this lone complainer see the effort the it takes to do this "fun DJ gig".   I think my solution will be a combination of the two options.  If there is event or class I want or need to take on a Wednesday night, I will take it off.  But if I get a chance to record a shuffle skate set for the fill-in DJ to play on Wednesday, I will.  I will start taking more requests which are not limited to the 80’s and the weekly requests from the regulars may not get weekly play.  So that’s the plan.  And here is the play list (after the break) from this week with me as the DJ and last week with John as the DJ. Jellybeans Playlist for 2/4/2009

This a little late, but I was trying to use an old laptop loaded with Ubuntu Linux to convert the raw xml into a list and as usual trying to get Linux to do anything other than server stuff or light PC duties was going to be a multi-hour challenge of package searches and learning the command line conversion program.  So via MS Excel, here is the list.  It looks a little short this week as the night started out with some old disco played from CD.  To see the play list….

JellyBeans Classic Wednesday Playlist

Pretty good crowd tonight. There were a couple of groups including a the Cary Girls Night Out meet-up.  A lot of what was played was from requests.  Weird how the regulars want to shoot the DJ for playing other skater’s requests, and really give you grief for a slow song one of them requested at the end.  CW4L.  I skipped the after party tonight as I have tinge of upper respiratory crud coming on and I really need the rest.  To see the playlist… Continue reading “JellyBeans Classic Wednesday Playlist”

Jellybeans Playlist and Thanksgiving

It was a decent night at the ‘bean and the after party was a sort of pre-thanksgiving skater family get together.  Today I am thankful for a couple of days off, time with family and happy the blister on my heel that kept me from working out all of last week is almost completely healed.  When you have EB, it’s amazing what something like a shopping cart running up on your heel can do.  It was a week before I could wear a normal shoe and that was only helped by the antibiotic from my doctor.  Monday I was able to do upper body work at the gym and got in a long spinning class Tuesday night.  Hopefully I can make it to spinning class tomorrow and work off some the food I will undoubtedly cram down my pie hole today.
